ASMP as an Organization
ASMP has grown steadily since its founding in 1944. This didn't "just happen." It was the result of dedicated and energetic members working year after year to make ASMP a vital part of the photographic community. Today, the Society relies on that same dedication and energy as we face the challenges of a difficult and fast-changing industry.
We do stand on the shoulders of giants, and we can learn much from the stories they have given us. Our 60th Anniversary year is now past. Nevertheless, the interviews with past presidents and the Bulletin artistic retrospective at the 35th Anniversary continue to offer good humor and insight into the complexities of the people and the profession.
It is also true that ASMP's future depends on how well we care for the mundane aspects of running the organization. We can delegate the daily chores of policies, procedures, finances and governance to our national and chapter leaders, but we cannot shirk the responsibility for keeping the Society on a solid footing. Our tag-line, "it's your business," applies as well to the whole ASMP as to each member's profession.
