PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo, brought to you by PDN, is coming up October 27 - 29th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC. Once again, ASMP will hold the Annual Meeting during this event and participate in a number of other ways.
- ASMP's Annual Member Meeting is Friday the 28th from 6pm to 8pm in Room 1A23 - remember, the first 100 to attend receive free tickets to one of ASMP's Saturday seminars.
- Don't be shy - stop by the ASMP booth (#1276) during the show and say hello!
- There's still time for members to sign up for free consultations.
- A representative from the Copyright Office will be at the ASMP booth Friday the 28th to answer questions.

The series of ten free webinars jointly produced by ASMP and Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) to educate creators and users on copyright, licensing and monetization of content started off with a bang earlier this month with record-setting registration from many corporate buyers of visual materials, as well as photographers and other imaging professionals. YPA Presents Scholarship Awards

Young Photographers Alliance (YPA) the educational foundation dedicated to developing the talent of young photographers, has announced five scholarship awards, including two sponsored by ASMP, to talented photographers from across the US. YPA is honored to have Deborah Willis, Lois Greenfield, Albert Watson, Theresa Raffetto and Hans Neleman present this year's awards to the five scholarship winners at the YPA Award Ceremony and Benefit Auction, to be held at the Calumet Studio, New York, from 7pm to 10pm on Wednesday, October 19th. FotoWeek DC Launches Photography Festival
|
|
Visitors are expected to come from far and wide to see the numerous exhibits, workshops, lectures, and events of the 4th Annual Photography Festival. The Festival will be held November 5th - 12th and ASMP's DC Chapter is one of the sponsors. This year FotoWeek DC programming can be found at FotoWeek Central, the designated festival hub, four satellite locations including FotoSpace, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design, George Washington University, and Pepco's Edison Gallery Place, as well as numerous partner venues. Five of Jim Wark's images will be part of U.S. Postal Service series of stamps called Earthscapes. The sheet of stamps, according to the Postal Service, is an homage to the "beauty and diversity of America's landscape as seen from above." The images were captured from aircraft or Earth-observing satellites. Jim also is the author of the new books Leave No Trace and The World of Mining. To learn more, go here.

Photographer Frans Lanting and videographer Chris Eckstrom are giving a special joint presentation at the National Geographic Society as part of their "Masters of Photography" lecture series on Friday October 21 at 7:30 pm. The show is based on our recent fieldwork in Namibia, which was published in the June 2011 issue of National Geographic Magazine and in the March 2011 issue of National Geographic Traveler. In Memoriam: Sadly, Bob Golding passed away on October 5th. He was an ASMP Life Member and long time member of the Philadelphia Chapter. Throughout his life he worked as a successful professional photographer and teacher and loved his career.

ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik has a busy couple of weeks planned in New York prior to the Photo Plus Expo. He will attend the Young Photographers Alliance (YPA) Board Meeting, as well as the YPA Award Ceremony and Benefit Auction on October 19th. The next day Mopsik and Communications Director Pete Dyson will represent ASMP at Visual Connections' New York Image Expo 2011, presenting an option to stock photography. Mopsik will also attend a Picture Archive Council of America (PACA)
meeting with representatives of various photographic groups and interests, and he will be at the Lucie Awards ceremony for the international photography awards on October 24th.
