Boston photographer Stan Rowin re-elected ASMP president 2003-2004
Boston photographer Stanley Rowin, who spearheaded a variety of ASMP initiatives during his first term as ASMP president, has been re-elected unopposed for 2003-2004. Rowin, a driving force behind ASMPs revamped Web site and other Internet-based communications efforts, said that during his upcoming term he would be committed to expanding the organizations contributions to photography and ensuring ASMP maintained its relevancy in a changing marketplace.
Our industry is changing at a rapid pace and ASMP must change with it to make sure we can fulfill our traditional mission of promoting and protecting photographers rights. We know that efficient communications is a key to keeping our members abreast of business and technological advances so we are focusing significant resources on the Web site at www.asmp.org, he said.
One of ASMPs traditional purposes is quite simple: its to help put a dollar in members pockets and to stop someone from illegally taking a dollar out. So, were still very much aware of the need to serve our members in established ways but also want to make sure were ahead of the curve in other areas, he said.
Rowin said a recent membership recruitment drive was proving successful and ASMPs future financial position was promising because members had recently approved a referendum to increase annual dues from $275 to $300. While weve been able to do a lot and maintain a solid financial position for a long time, resources have been stretched to the limit. Its been about 15 years since we had a dues increase and our members could see that more funding was need to provide the services they relied on, said Rowin. Additionally, he said, ASMP would strive to work more closely with other trade groups and client organizations in an effort to create a better business environment for photographers.
Rowin went through two elections to regain office. Because his three-year term as a director was complete, he had to run in the general member-wide election. Once re-elected as a director, he nominated for president and was elected unopposed by the board of directors. Other officers elected by the board were: First vice president, Susan Carr, Kalamazoo, Mich., second vice-president, Robert Wiley, Orlando, Fla.; secretary, Lon Atkinson, San Diego, Calif.; treasurer, Clem Spalding, San Antonio, Texas.
The ASMP board of directors for 2003-2004 is: Stan Rowin, Susan Carr, Robert Wiley, Lon Atkinson, Clem Spalding, Mary Beth McAuley, Raleigh, North Carolina; Dan Lamont, Seattle, Wash.; Jim Flynn, Holliston, Mass.; Ben Colman, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Judy Herrmann, Ellicott City, Maryland; Dave Harp, Baltimore, Maryland; Michael Cardacino, Douglaston, New York; John Slemp, Tucker, Georgia; John Giammatteo, Middlefield, Conn.; Bruce Kluckhohn, Minneapolis, Minn.
