IPC TO HONOR SUSAN CARR AT U.N. EVENT

The International Photographic Council (IPC), a non-governmental organization of the United Nations, will honor photographer Susan Carr at its 2007 annual Professional Photographer Leadership Awards. Ms. Carr is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP). She will be recognized at the IPC's "International Professional Photographer's Month" luncheon at the United Nations in New York City on Thursday, May 10th. At that event, Laurent Dartoux, General Manager - Film Capture Business and Vice President - Film Products Group, Eastman Kodak Company, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.

Ms. Carr, a specialist in architectural photography based in Chicago, was twice elected President of ASMP. During her terms in office, she emphasized outreach to and cooperative efforts with other pro photo associations. She was also instrumental in shaping ASMP's ongoing series of "It's Your Business" seminars. More recently, she developed the "Strictly Business II" seminar series, which will be launched next winter.

The awards are presented each May by the International Photographic Council, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of the United Nations that was founded in 1974. (May, of course, is International Professional Photographer's Month.) The winners are selected by each of five professional photography organizations from among their members: Advertising Photographers of America (APA); American Society of Magazine Photographers (ASMP); Professional Photographers of America (PPA); Professional School Photographers Association International (PSPA); and the White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA). Each organization decides which of their members receives the award each year based on the standards they use within their organization.

Susan Carr was nominated by ASMP. Other honorees this year are David Langley by APA, Robert D. Lloyd by PPA, James Fletcher by PSPA, and John Harrington by WHNPA. Past recipients nominated by ASMP include Joel Meyerowitz (2003), Stanley Rowin (2004), Gary Gladstone (2005), and George Long (2006).
