Grant Application Process and Instructions
Our Mission: The ASMP Foundation exists to support the education of ASMP members and the creative community to which they belong.
Introduction
The ASMP Foundation periodically awards grant funding to educational programs that it believes will contribute significantly to the fulfillment of its mission. Given the present level of resources, it is unlikely that the Foundation can offer total funding for any given program; however, it may be able to provide financial support of up to $1500 which, in conjunction with other funding sources, can be instrumental in promoting worthy projects.
The ASMP Foundation Grants Committee evaluates grant applications twice yearly. Deadlines for application are November 15 and May 15. Applicants will be notified within 60 days if their application has been accepted or rejected. All grant decisions are made on a nondiscriminatory basis.
The Application Process
Please carefully re-read the mission of the ASMP Foundation. If you wish to apply for support for your program, please submit with a cover letter (either as six printed copies or preferably as a PDF via email), the following documents and information:
A completed application form available from the offices of the ASMP Foundation or downloadable at http://www.asmp.org/foundation/index.php.
A concise (250 words or less) statement of purpose describing the strategic plan of your program and why you believe it will help fulfill the mission of the ASMP Foundation. Think about how your program might fill a gap in the educational and professional development needs of photographers.
A detailed description of the content of the program. How are you going to fulfill the needs you described? Please include your curriculum plan and event agenda if appropriate. You should also answer these questions:
- How many people will this grant benefit and who are they?
- What involved parties are ASMP members?
- How will your program affect ASMP members?
A budget. How much money do you need in total and specifically from the ASMP Foundation? How do you intend to spend the grant you are seeking?
A description of the experience and background for the organizers of this program.
As you go through the process of planning your program, think about your range of options. Consider other sources of funding which might compliment the request you are making of the ASMP Foundation.
Upon Receiving a Grant
Should the ASMP Foundation agree to provide support:
You must include in all your promotional materials a credit reading “with generous support from the ASMP Foundation” or “supported by a grant from the ASMP Foundation.” This may, of course be in addition to other credits required by other funding organizations.
After the event is over, you will give the Foundation a count of the number of attendees and a list of photographic organizations that your attendees belong to (e.g., ASMP, APA, PPA, etc.).
The Foundation requires that you provide artifacts of your educational program. These can include, but are not limited to, copies of mailers and posters promoting the event, a few good-quality still photos of actual event activities (digital images saved as TIFFs or high quality JPEGs preferred), with signed releases for all identifiable subjects, along with copies of curricula and samples of all handouts and other teaching materials distributed to the students. By providing these materials, you will be helping the ASMP Foundation enhance fund-raising so it can continue to support programs in the future.
The Foundation will provide you with a questionnaire that must be completed and returned after the program or workshop. This data will help the ASMP Foundation better serve the educational needs of other programs and the photographers they serve.
