Professional Photographic Practices
The ASMP Foundation has responded to the need for improved business education of aspiring photographers by publishing a curriculum for photography educators, Professional Photographic Practices.
The curriculum is a business course intended to:
- Provide necessary skills for seeking and attaining entrylevel employment in the photographic field;
- Familiarize students with the vocabulary, procedures, and working realities that are part of a photography occupation or photography as a fine art; and
- Teach students to identify the measures necessary to conduct their own photographic businesses.
The materials in the curriculum may be used for a separate business course or incorporated into other curricula. The scope of the materials is extensive and may not fit into a single semester. Certain informationcopyright, pricing, and the use of paperworkis crucial to every photographer, but the wealth of material gives instructors and institutions the opportunity to select the topics and amount of material most appropriate to students needs.
Note: The Curriculum is intended to be used only by educators and is not useful to students or photographers.
To view the document you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for free from Adobe.
We think you will find the Curriculum to be highly beneficial, and it will give your students a head start with their photography whether they do it for fine art or to make money.
