The business of commercial and architectural photography is an aspect that constantly requires attention. From estimating, licensing issues, invoicing issues, permits, project coordination and execution, intellectual property issues, all are important factors. Assignments require attention from preparation through delivery and beyond. It's important to communicate with the client and related location contacts throughout the process. It's equally important to include all of the services, fees and charges you might provide and they all appear on every estimate before the assignment is authorized.

Bio: Steve Whittaker is an architectural photographer now based in the Portland area, and originally a San Francisco bay area native. The majority of his work is architectural, interior and aerial photography. His specialty is illuminating the exterior surfaces of buildings at dusk. His clients range from architects, interior designers, graphic design firms, advertising agencies, corporate direct, lifestyle and hospitality.

Steve joined ASMP in 1983. In 1995, he became an active ASMP Northern California Chapter board member with a focus on outreach and education to emerging photographers. In 1999 - 2001, he was chapter Co-President and acted as an interim Chapter President in 2005 as well. In 2000, Steve joined other ASMP Architectural Photographers with ASMP Architecture-an active specialty group of ASMP. In March 2010 Steve was elected to the ASMP National Board of Directors and is currently serving his second term as an ASMP National Director. In addition, he is working with various ASMP chapters as a Chapter Relations Committee member.
