After a diverse 27-year career at The Washington Post where Lucian Perkins covered events both here at home and abroad, he took an early buyout five and a half years ago to pursue new media and documentaries. During his tenure at the Post, he was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes, a World Press Photo of the Year and a NPPA/POY Photographer of the Year. Lucian will talk about his career since leaving the Post. In addition to pursuing his love for the still image, he will discuss what he has learned while doing films on Sudan and Cambodia for the U.S. Holocaust Museum; co-founding Facing Change: Documenting America, a collective of ten photographers who are chronicling some of the pressing issues America faces; creating two independent documentary films as well as shorts for various organizations; and publishing a book three months ago on the Punk Rock scene he photographed as an intern at the Post in 1979.
Admission is free for this event, through the generous support of the Northern Virginia Community College, however registration is required.
