New Orleans native Tyrone Turner (www.tyronefoto.com) returns to his hometown on Wednesday, March 13, 2012 as the featured speaker at a special presentation of the American Society of Media Photographers - New Orleans Gulf South chapter (ASMP/NOGS). Mr. Turner started his career at The Times-Picayune and is now based in Arlington, VA. As a contributing photographer to National Geographic Magazine he has traveled extensively from the bayous of Louisiana to Brazil focusing on social and environmental issues. He has produced stories on the disappearing wetlands, Hurricane Katrina, and the BP oil spill. As a Fellow for the Institute of Current World Affairs (ICWA) from 1998 through 2000 he documented life in the Northeast of Brazil and, in 2003, was awarded a Justice Media Fellowship from the Soros Foundation to document the lives of youths incarcerated in the adult correctional system.
