ASMPDC & Fotoweek DC Presents: A Talk with Photographer Dan Winters

Join ASMP-DC in celebrating FotoWeekDC with photographer Dan Winters as he discusses his journey to becoming a photographer, as well as key moments in his career that have influenced and informed the decisions he has made and the path he has taken.

After beginning his career as a photojournalist for a daily newspaper in southern California, Dan Winters moved to New York to begin a celebrated career that has since led to more than one hundred awards, including the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography. An immensely respected portrait photographer, Dan is well known for an impeccable use of light, color, and depth in his evocative images. He will address such topics as creating a visual language, street photography, personal projects and his portraiture work.

Dan Winters is a photographer well-known for his celebrity portraiture, photojournalism, and illustrations. He has won numerous awards including a first place World Press Photo Award and the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography. His work appears in many national and international publications, including WIRED, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, GQ, TIME and Rolling Stone. He has had multiple solo gallery exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles, and a solo exhibition at the Telfair Museum Jepson Center for the Arts in Savannah. His books include Dan Winters' America: Icons and Ingenuity, Last Launch, Periodical Photographs and his most current title, Road To Seeing, which chronicles his path to becoming a photographer.
