Specialty Groups within ASMP
Specialty groups within ASMP provide a unique opportunity for photographers to exchange information and techniques among themselves and with other photographers within a defined specialty or segment of the business. These groups maintain listservs and mobilize as necessary to address specific trade issues of concern to the specialized members.
Specialty groups have been established for:
Architecture
The Architectural Photography Specialty Group serves as the leading forum for architectural photographers around the world. Formed in 1994, this group’s members create images of architectural designs that further the appreciation and understanding of architecture. The group’s aim is to foster greater communication within the photographic community and to increase understanding and cooperation among architectural photographers, clients, related trade organizations and the entire design community.
Among the group's projects are various publications (such as the joint AIA-ASMP Best Practice papers on Commissioning Architectural Photography) and cultivating contact with the architecture and building industries. Here's more info. The group also maintains an active listserv. All ASMP member photographers are welcome to join.
The Architecture group is chaired by Chun Lai.
Fine Art
The Fine Art Specialty Group is a community of photographers interested in creating, exhibiting and selling fine art photography. As a group, we work to network, educate and promote ASMP fine art photographers. To achieve this goal, we have created a listserv for the exchange of information, we are working to create a resource guide, and we help ASMP Fine Art Specialty Group members produce and host events and panel discussions in coordination with their respective chapters.
The Fine Art group is chaired by Kathleen Collins.
Food
Begun in early 2006, the Food Specialty Group works on education and outreach to people involved in culinary photography and related industries. It supports an enthusiastic online community, which is open to both ASMP members and non-members.
The Food Photography group is chaired by Jim Scherzi.
Note: Some specialty groups restrict their online discussions to ASMP members; others have chosen to open their discussions to non-members. Nevertheless, only ASMP members can be members of a specialty group. If you are a current member and would like to participate in a group’s activities, please contact ASMP National.
