Survey responses from the ASMP’s International Membership
Photography is an international language, and from its very beginnings the ASMP has counted internationally based photographers as integral members. Many of the Society’s founders were newly arrived from Europe or enjoyed careers that encompassed the international scene. The ASMP’s first president, Philippe Halsman, was stunned by his election to office before he was even granted U.S. citizenship.
There are currently 126 members who list an address outside the 50 states. International members are spread across 34 foreign countries and range from 31 members in Canada to individuals who reside in locations as diverse as Finland, French Polynesia, Poland, South Africa, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and 27 other nations around the globe.
The Fall 2007 issue of the ASMP Bulletin featured a portfolio with images selected from among the International membership. As an online supplement to this printed piece, we recently surveyed the international membership to get outside perspectives on our organization and thoughts about the photo industry as a whole. When asked about sharing local resources with other members in the interest of forging alliances, most replies came back as “Yes.” Read the responses received and visit member Web sites at via the hot links provided here. Enjoy!
