What Every Photographer Should Know About Copyright
Speakers: Richard Kelly and Susan Carr
Track: It’s Your Business
Sponsor: ASMP
In a follow up to their highly acclaimed presentation at Houston FotoFest, ASMP education director Susan Carr and ASMP president Richard Kelly present a two-hour seminar all about copyright. Topics to be addressed include: an explanation of what can be copyrighted and what those rights are; a brief history of how copyright law has evolved; a discussion about Fair Use; how to define an infringement; and what is the Copyright War? Carr and Kelly will also shed light on artist considerations specifically related to copyright in the age of digital distribution and will cover solutions pioneered by organizations such as Creative Commons, PLUS and Public Knowledge. Finally, they’ll review the basics of copyright registration and discuss why all photographers who value their work should bother to register their images. With the proposed Orphan Works and other business pressures looming over your photo ownership, this is a seminar not to be missed.
